Rotary Medical Mission touches 50,000 lives in 7 days

The Rotary Medical Mission has returned home with a massive success, having seen nearly 50,000 patients in OPD and operated on nearly 2,200 patients in mere seven days in the tribal district Mandla of Madhya Pradesh.
Inspired by Past Rotary International President Rajendra K. Saboo and Usha Saboo who participated as volunteers, and led by District Governor Chetan Aggarwal and Neelam, the team of doctors and volunteers from District 3080 joined the team from District 3260 for this massive humanitarian endeavour.
"We never imagined that it would be such a massive affairs" said Rtn. Pres. G.S. Lakhmna of Rotary Club of Chandigarh who accompanied the team as volunteer.
Past Rotary International President Rajendra K. Saboo commended the government of Madhya Pradesh who placed the entire state machinery to support the project with their logistic support and making available the hospitals for operations.
And there were local Rotarians including the live-wire PDG Rtn Vivek Tankhia and DG of District 32360, who coordinated the mission there.
The success of this Rotary Medical Mission can be gauged from the fact that it has attracted the attention of the Guinness Book of World Records and Limca Book of World Records, whose representatives witnessed the response to this project, where 49,634 patients were examined and 2088 major surgeries were conducted.
In seven days, 70,000 people participated and around 40,000 food packets were distributed, and medicines worth over Rs.10 lakh were distributed there.
Reporting on the front page of its March 14th edition from Jabalpur, the English daily, The Hitavada, wrote, “The Camp has become an ideal event in the history of Indian medical sciences. In terms of quality of services provided to the patients, transportation arrangement for patients who were taken out from far-flung tribal villages.”
Bhaskar reporting on the camp, “Haan, hamne khuda dekh liya” (We’ve seen God), and another day it said on the front page, “Yeh Lau Yun Hee Roshan Rahe” (Let this light continue to brighten our paths), and on another day, it reported, “Narkiye jivan se mili mukti” (Freedom from the life of Hell)
Rtn. Rajendra K. Saboo, who is the force behind the concept of medical missions motivating Rotarian doctors to come forward and volunteer to serve outside their own club, community and country, briefed the Club about how this medical mission touched the lives of thousands of people, and each was a story that made us all proud of Rotary.
There were many astonishing medical successes including removal of a 7-kg tumour from the uterous of a female patient, he informed.
There were 37 doctors and volunteers led by Mission Director PDG Subhash Garg, who were accompanied by an equally large team from District 3260 under chairmanship of PDG Rtn Vivek Tankha, along with Rtn. Dr Rajesh Dhirawani, Rtn. Baldeep Singh Maini, Rtn. Puneet Handa, and PDG Rtn. Vivek Tankha played a stellar role.
This Mission has created a history of sort, with requests pouring in from Mandla for a repeat visit.
